Description
Memoir of Virginia Reynolds which covers her training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, her journey to England on the ship 'Aquitania' and arrival in East Anglia. It includes details of her work as an American Red Cross girl, 1943-5, and also gives details of daily live and events at the 231st Station Hospital. She describes meeting the actor, Jimmy Stewart and entertainer, James Cagney at the Hospital. She also relates her memoirs of Colonel Gable, the Commanding Officer, and Sgt Harry Aaron Miller who formed the 'Gable Gaitors' Hospital dance band. The memoir contains several undated photographs including the wedding of Virginia and Lt Jack Reynolds and the 'Gable Gaitors' band. Also contains a copy of 'Norfolk front-line American hospital' (Eastern Evening News, 6 May 1944) about the work of the Station Hospital and an unidentified publication, 'American Red Cross Service Club', about the club based at the Bishop's Palace, Norwich.
