Description
Photographs relating to a bombing mission and subsequent evasion of capture in France. Includes photographs of the Benier family and their farmhouse at Orbais, France, with air strike photographs and map of the target area at La Perthe, 1944; photographs relating to a return visit to France, including Orbais and Andre and Gaston Benier, 1991-1992; photographs of the Weatherwax and Komasinski crews, aircraft 'My Gal Sal' and 'Ole Cock', Lt Komasinski's wedding, and individual photographs of Lt William Weatherwax, Frank Schaeffer and Henri Moysonet of the French Foreign Legion; photographs of Schaeffer's drawings of B-24s, 1944. Also contains an unpublished typescript memoir, with copies of original documentation, 'My Story by Frank N. Schaeffer, Engineer-Evadee', primarily an account of the Komasinski crew, the air crash on 8 August 1944, and subsequent evasion of capture in France.
